On November 1st Jill and Vernon Jones will step down from their respective Committee roles as Registrar/Co- Secretary and Treasurer of the PTC due to ongoing ill health. They are of course, co-founders of the club but we should remember that prior to this they were involved with Plummers for many years and Jill held positions as Secretary and then Registrar of the now dissolved Plummer Terrier Association, the oldest club, founded in 1994.
They have been stalwarts of the breed and their Stonyford kennels produced some excellent working Plummers. Jill’s dedication, knowledge, and organizational skills have been a valued asset to the development of the breed over the years. Their combined efforts are often understated because they have never sought recognition or applause. Straight-talking yet always friendly and helpful, the amount of time they have dedicated to the breed for almost three decades is highly commendable.
On a personal note, my overriding memory of them will be of the times I have turned up at the many shows they helped to organize, to witness them both unloading and setting up the marquees and show rings despite suffering poor health in the latter years. Also, the background work Jill beavered away at with regards to club business. She has always had a good overview of club matters and, strong but measured views on the way forward for the breed.
On behalf of PTC members and the Committee may I thank them both for their years of commitment to Plummer terriers and wish them the good health they deserve. They will be sorely missed.
Phill Kettle.
